The 6 dimensions of service leadership

There are two tracks of ToastMasters, the Communications Track and the Leadership Track. In order to complete the ToastMasters program you need to complete both tracks. One requirement of the Leadership Track is to complete the High Performance Leadership Track where you learn to develop The Six Dimensions of Service Leadership.

What is Service Leadership? Good question, it is a style of leadership that is more involved versus a commanding type leadership. Service leaders are willing to place empowerment above personal power, contribution above their own ego satisfaction and the needs of the team above their own needs for credit and acclaim.

A good service leader is one who is effective in six major areas of dimensions:

  1. Vision and Values
  2. Direction
  3. Persuasion
  4. Support
  5. Development
  6. Appreciation

In order to improve your leadership skills:

  • Assess your current leadership skills
  • Identify your strengths and the skills that could use improvement
  • Learn and seek more knowledge on how to improve
  • Challenge yourself to develop and grow your skills

Some people develop leadership skills early in life, others develop their skills later in life through time and hard work. If you’re looking to become a strong leader you can develop your skills to be one.

BE x DO = HAVE

Leadership Assessment.

Rate yourself from 1 to 5 on each leadership dimension listed above. Average out the score to see your Leadership score. How did you score? Where do you need to put more attention?
